There is no ambiguity that this year the summer heat is unbearable in India. Putting AC systems for cooling inner spaces is now essential; however, everybody cannot afford to do so considering the high installation and operational (electrical) costs. Then what is the way out?

There are some natural ways to keep the room cool during peak summer. First of all, keeping all the windows closed during sunlit times helps in preventing the hot air’s inflow. Also, as almost 76% of sunlight entering through windows causes heat, it is very effective to cover the windows from inside with medium-coloured drapes with white-plastic backing.

If the complete enclosed area is not in use, then it is better to keep the unused areas closed. Nullify all the possibilities of air leakage through doors and windows or other gaps.

Kitchens at residential apartments and pantries at offices generally contain some heating devices. These areas need special attention to throw away the hot air outside.

Modern LED lamps produce very less amount of heat. So, switching over to LED lamps completely will keep the inside temperature cool. If there is no AC systems (Window or Split), you have to use multiple fans to keep the air moving. Now, the fans need to be positioned strategically, so that the air circulation happens properly – and finally that goes out.

One of the most common challenges in India is controlling the humidity inside a closed space. Strategic application of desiccants is a good solution thereon – apart from that dehumidifier machines also may be deployed, if affordable. Although they will not reduce the temperature, preventing sweating they will give little more comfort.
